Showing my colors!
I was appalled. A boy? Ick! Yuck! Good grief! I had all the wrong parts! So, it comes with little surprise that being the wrong gender didn't stop my father from trying his best to make me the son he really wanted.
From watching Star Trek together, to cutting grass and racking leaves, and movie trivia, my father and I were inseparable. As I've grown older, my father and I are still thick as maple syrup and often call on each to lean, to listen, and to lift each other up. One thing I've taken away from my relationship with my father is, well, my love of football.
As we approach Thanksgiving (in the U.S.), nothing is more traditional than turkey and football on Thanksgiving Day. I'm a Pittsburgh Steeler's fan. Period. In the rough, rebuilding years, through the Super Bowl wins, and now, during the drama with Ben and our rollarcoaster offense. I nearly married a man who was also a diehard fan.
As a teenager, I often found myself alone in my love affair with football. My girl friends thought I was nuts. Now, I've found many more women who love football like I do. Diehard, schedule events around Sundays and wait impatiently for the season to kick off in August.
That got me to thinking...Why do you think women love football? Post your comments about your love affair with football by Saturday, 11/26/10, and I'll draw a name for a gift certificate to BTP.
